It’s important to know about a company before you put the effort and energy into acquiring service. Don’t waste your time—get a feel for Cable Vision by reading up on the company’s corporate history, products, and services below. You may be surprised by some of the things you learn.

CABLEVISION CORPORATE HISTORY

Cablevision has undergone a ton of changes since its original founding. Like many other cable companies, Cable Vision has gone from a small local company to a giant mega-company over the course of the last several decades. And also like other cable companies, Cable Vision has both acquired and sold other companies during periods of growth and contraction.

Established in 1973 with just 1,500 Long Island customers, Cablevision has since grown to several million customers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and parts of Pennsylvania—offering services in those states under the Optimum brand.

Cablevision has at times over the years also operating in other states including Massachusetts, Ohio, and Illinois. As late as 2013, Cablevision also offered services in several western states, including Wyoming and Colorado after an acquisition and the formation of Optimum West—which has since been sold. Most of the Cablevision regions outside of the Greater New York City area have since been sold to other providers as well.

In addition to its services, Cablevision also was one of the first cable companies to also own some of the networks it distributed. From 1980 until 2011, Cablevision owned and operated AMC Networks, the parent company to channels like AMC, IFC, and the Sundance Channel, to name a few.

Cablevision is headquartered in Bethpage, NY and employs over 14,000 people.

CABLEVISION: There are Alternatives

You may have to use an alternative local provider. Or, you can go with a nationwide satellite TV provider, like DIRECTV.
